ADULT OBESITY
Only 23% of United States Adults get enough exercise per the CDC. Life is short where any second may be your last due to freak accident, mother nature, psychos, or self inflicted.
Worldwide, guess how many people are overweight vs starving? There are 600 million undernourished vs 2 billion overweight people.
Successful people prioritize fitness. Reducing your waistline will help increase your financial bottom line.
At work, workplace wellness programs have two main goals: improve employees’ health and lower their employers’ health-care costs. Turns out workplace wellness programs are not very good at either as studied by the National Bureau of Economic Research. The only employees taking advantage of financial incentives are people who are already healthy.
The US Department of Health and Human Services recommends that people between the ages of 18 and 64 exercise for at least 150 minutes each week spread over 3 days a week.
Successful companies generally have a dedicated leadership that is committed to wellness programs. Tim Cook of Apple works out at 5AM, Michelle Obama inspires children and adults thru her Let’s Move initiative, and Jeff Bezos of Amazon - the richest person in the world now sports a fit physique to motivate his employees as they become the most dominant company in the world.
With the rise of jobs where people sit all day combined with addiction to phones after work, society is now lazy. Adult obesity is personal as I became obese for the 3rd time at age 22 from the brutal life on the road 200 nights a year. Healthwise, the 4 years of consulting travel were the worst as the hotel gyms had limited fitness equipment and nutrition consisted of drinking and eating huge meals everyday.
When back home from travels, I fell in the trap of most people checking the 9AM-5PM box during the weekdays to live for the weekends of heavy drinking on Friday and Saturday - using Sunday as recovery day to repeat the process again each week. It’s a weekly vicious cycle that can kill you. In a rut personally and professionally, prioritizing nutrition and exercise helped me kill obesity for good. Within a year, I lowered my weight to 140 pounds for a 25.6 BMI which doctors approve as this BMI measure overestimates body fat for muscular and physically fit people - particular of Asian genetics.
With commitment to disciplined nutrition and exercise, I’ve been able to maintain this BMI level and health ever since - unlike those who gain all their lost weight back after participating in a fad diet program called yo-yo dieting. This happens time and time again as fad diets (cutting calories under 1,000 a day) don’t work because it’s temporary and not a permanent healthy lifestyle change. Life can be enjoyed without drinking. Today instead of Vodka, my favorite drink is water on the rocks.
As adults, it’s in your company’s best interest to invest in employee health to reduce healthcare costs while reaping the benefits that healthier employees boost the company’s bottomline.
Many companies along with health insurance companies give employees money for tracking their steps with a pedometer. Unfortunately, employees cheat by tying their watch on a drone and flying it around to meet the steps goal. Companies also foster internal competition with month-long weight loss contests during New Year Resolution and the Summer. With money and bragging rights on the line, people go to extremes where employees gained 30 pounds by eating McDonalds so they could lose those 30 pounds to win the contest money.
Many companies and commercial real estate developers have on-site gyms as they know a healthy workforce reduces healthcare costs and improves productivity. However, the majority of gym equipment collects dust serving as amenity bragging rights against other companies for recruiting, but employees never use it. The first reason most people don’t use the gym is due to laziness and another common reason people don’t use onsite gyms is due to social stigma that you’re showing off in front of lazy people.
To end all this laziness, JustHuynh Fitness provides online and studio group fitness programs. With nutrition as 70% and exercise as 30% of the battle, JustHuynh Fitness helps clients understand their causes for overeating and desire for unhealthy foods. Our goal is for you to break your bad habits and form healthy habits for life thru JustHuynh Fitness’ brand of martial arts and power athletics.
