HEALTH IS WEALTH
In ancient Greece, physical strength, health, and beauty were central to one’s excellence as were creative talent, intelligence, or moral character. Celebrities and leading business executives are part of a secretive world where food, exercise, vitamins, nutritional supplements, medical care, and ageing are mastered. They take their health seriously rather than wasting time on non-value add life activities. Rich or poor, you too can be proactive with your health instead of making excuses that you don’t have time for exercise.
Famous Greek philosophers Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle all valued their health. In 468 BC, Plato’s teacher Socrates said “No citizen has a right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training...what a disgrace it is for a man or woman to grow old without ever seeing the beauty and strength of which his or her body is capable.” Here, Socrates wants you to know that you’re doing a disservice to your life if you don’t unlock your best physical form thru exercise. Greek philosopher Plato said “To succeed in life, perfection is achieved thru education + exercise.” Plato reminds you to focus on your mind thru continuous learning and body thru exercise. Plato’s student Aristotle said “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” In order to reach your best physical form, you need to make exercise a daily habit just like brushing your teeth.
Martial artists know the benefits of prioritizing health that can help you achieve your wealth goals. Imi Lichtenfeld, the Father of Krav Maga, had a life-changing quote in his book “Krav Maga: How to Defend Yourself Against Armed Assault” saying “Everyone wants to be in someone else’s place: At the circus a young, muscular gymnast performs acrobatic feats on the trapeze, while in the audience below, in the most expensive seat, sits a rich, fat businessman with a cigar between his lips and a stunning girl on his arm. The businessman says to himself: “I would give all I have in order to be like him, young, athletics, without a care in the world,” and the acrobat, who sees him from high up on the trapeze, thinks: “I wish I could be in his place, a rich man with such a beautiful woman, who can afford the most expensive seat at the circus and watch a young, poor, unfortunate guy like me endanger his life for a few cents.” Like the Greek philosophers mentioned, you will thrive in life if sharpen both your body for health and your mind to achieve the wealth you need for an amazing life.
