JAPAN WORKPLACE WELLNESS MANDATE
In 2008, Japan passed the “Metabo Law” designed to combat “metabolic syndrome,” which is known to Americans as “pre-diabetes.” The “Metabo Law” requires overweight individuals or individuals who show signs of obesity or diabetes to take nutrition weight loss classes. If people fail to attend the classes, the companies including local governments who employ them must pay fines to the federal government. Furthermore, companies with more than a certain percentage of overweight employees are fined directly. If you travel to Japan which I did in 2018, you’ll see first hand that most Japanese are fit which has resulted in the country having one of the longest human lifespans in the world.
Coupled with the fact that people on average waste 2 hours a day at work and waste 6 hours of their time each day, employers can gamify exercise similar to people walking outside to catch pokemon on “Pokemon Go” or employees feeling excited to answer trivia questions everyday with their co-workers on the game “HQ Trivia.”
